A New Ringgold man will serve up to a year in jail, followed by one year of probation for indecent assault and corruption of minors.
Luis A. Melendez, 57, was charged by state police at Frackville on July 2, 2016.He pleaded guilty on Feb. 22 to the charges, and President Judge William E. Baldwin sentenced him.A charge of criminal attempt at forcible indecent assault was dropped.Melendez also was ordered to pay court costs and fees.Judges also sentenced these people charged by local police to jail time in addition to paying court costs and fees.Angelo Maldonado, 27, of Tamaqua: Charged by Coaldale police with having a controlled substance he was not authorized to have and possession of drug paraphernalia on Sept. 24, 2016.The paraphernalia charge was dropped in district court.With Maldonado on the run, Judge John E. Domalakes sentenced him to serve to three to 12 months in jail - as soon as he is found.Jeffrey Yeager, 27, of Shoemakersville: Charged by Rush Township police with two counts each of retail theft and receiving stolen property on Dec. 18, 2016.Judge Charles M. Miller sentenced him to time served (31 days) to 18 months in jail.Miller also ordered Yeager to repay Walmart $1,180.The receiving charges were dropped.Joseph J. Redner II, 40, of New Ringgold: Charged by Tamaqua police with possessed stolen property and drug paraphernalia on Aug. 24, 2015, and with theft and possessed paraphernalia on Oct. 18, 2015.Baldwin, after revoking Redner's probation, sentenced him to six to 24 months in jail.Redner, had pleaded guilty on June 29, 2016, and Baldwin had placed him on probation for 12 months and ordered him to pay $1,833 restitution.Samuel L. Frey, 36, of New Ringgold: Charged by Pottsville police with possession of drug paraphernalia on Jan. 9, 2015.Baldwin, after revoking Frey's probation, sentenced him to three to 12 months in jail.Frey had pleaded guilty on Sept. 28, 2015, and Baldwin placed him on probation for 12 months.
