Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown continues its Met Opera Summer Encore Series with two performances on the big screen next month.
At 6:30 p.m. July 12 it's "Nabucco" by Giuseppe Verdi. The legendary James Levine conducts this opera of epic proportion starring Plécido Domingo and Jamie Barton. The story unfolds as Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, attacks the Hebrew people enslaving them. By the end, he frees them, announcing his own spiritual conversion.Next up is "Carmen" by Georges Bizet, which will be shown at 6:30 p.m. July 19. One of opera's most popular works returns to the Met in a new production by Olivier Award-winning director Richard Eyre."Carmen is about sex, violence and racism - and its corollary: freedom," Eyre says of Bizet's masterpiece.Elina Garanca takes on the title heroine opposite Roberto Alagna as the jealous Don José and Mariusz Kwiecien as Escamillo.
