Summer concerts
The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce continues its 11th Annual Summer Concert Series with an appearance by Six to Midnight, a rock group sponsored by Tom's Auto Body and Marine, this Thursday, June 29.Concerts will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on select Thursdays throughout the summer months with all events to be held on the platform of the Tamaqua Train Station.Additional concerts will be: July 13, It takes Two, top 40s and classics, sponsored by Cal's Tire and Auto Services; July 20, Chuck and Cahoe, sponsored by Mermon Motors; July 27, Big and Bad Rockabilly Cats, sponsored by the Tamaqua Station Restaurant; Aug. 3, Billy T Acoustically, sponsored by LCCC; Aug. 10, Diaspora, sponsored by the Schuylkill County Visitor's Bureau; Aug. 24, Christopher Dean Band, sponsored by Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met June 22 with 55 members and one guest, Hilda Manhaidt, in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and provided the inspirational reading "Summer's Serene Serenade."A moment of silence was held in memory of Jacque Patrick.Upcoming events include: June 29, celebration of May and June birthdays.The group is open to anyone 55 or older.Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.Soup socialThe next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held on Saturday. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.The meal is free to the public, and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.For more information or to volunteer, stop by the church at 22 Lafayette St. or call 570-668-4139.Water metersThe Tamaqua Area Water Authority has begun installing new water meters to its customers in the Hometown section of Rush Township. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the ministry council will meet at 11:45 a.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer gathering at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, worship team meets at 7 p.m., worship team leaders meet at 8 p.m.Zion LutheranZion Luthern Church, Greenwood Street, will celebrate its 200th Saturday worship service at 5:30 p.m. July 1. A covered-dish dinner will be held following the service.Zion's Culinary Crew will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans and drinks.
