Route 443 in West Penn township was closed due to a single vehicle crash in the village of Mantzville.

Police report a Lehighton man was traveling east just past the intersection with Mantzville Road when an animal ran out in front of him. He claimed he swerved to the left entering the berm impacting with and snapping off a utility pole.

The unit continued on mowing down a chain link fence on the property of Donald Hine. The unit came to rest after it destroyed a gate on the property.

The utility pole was carrying heavy utility cables which came down just above the roadway.

West Penn police are investigating the incident.
