A Luzerne County man who was caught by Rush Township police driving with 120 bags of heroin, and whose passenger had more than 50 bags of the drug, most of them in his anal cavity, will serve time in state prison.
Nathan Ross, 32, of Nescopeck, was charged by Rush Township police with driving under the influence of heroin, possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as summary traffic violations on Nov. 4, 2015.Schuylkill County Judge John E. Domalakes sentenced him to six to 24 months in state prison on the charge of possession with intent to deliver heroin.He also sentenced Ross to 72 hours to six months on the DUI charge. Ross also lost his license for 12 months, and was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.Domalakes sentenced him to 30 days on probation on the marijuana charge, and 12 months on the paraphernalia charge. Both are to be served concurrently with the possession sentence.Domalakes also ordered Ross to complete Alcohol Highway Safety School, enroll in outpatient substance abuse treatment, mental health counseling, and a self-help recovery program.He was also ordered to pay court costs and fees.A second count of possession of a controlled substance, and charges of driving on the wrong lane and careless driving, were dropped.Ross' passenger that day, Matthew Eggler, 28, of Berwick, was found to have a felony warrant out of Columbia County for possession with intent to deliver heroin.The drugs he had hidden were discovered during a search at Schuylkill County prison.He was charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Information about the outcome of his case was not available.
