Summer lunch

The South Ward Playground Association will once again conduct a free summer lunch program for all local children up to and including the age of 18. Lunches will be served weekdays, starting June 13, from noon to 1:15 p.m., at the South Ward Playground.The program is an offshoot of the free school lunch program, with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The nondiscriminatory program is open to all children regardless of race, origin, religion, etc. In addition to a healthy lunch, participants will be offered a variety of summer activities.The playground is located at the intersection of Penn and Oak streets in the South Ward.Movies in the parkThe East End Playground Association is bringing back its popular Movies in the Park, starting today, June 7. The first film to be presented at the playground this year will be "Trolls."The feature will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. and the refreshment stand will be open.Rain date will be June 8, same time and place.Cressona BandThe Cressona Band will present a concert at the Tamaqua ABC High Rise tonight.The concert will start at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.Bring your own lawn chair.Chamber concertsThe next event in the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce's 11th Annual Summer Concert series will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdayon the platform of the Tamaqua Train Station.This week's featured musicians will be Steve Brosky and Jimmy Meyer, playing the blues. The duo is sponsored by Williamson, Friedberg, & Jones.Concertgoers are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met June 1 with 46 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and the chaplain provided the inspirational reading "Integrity."Upcoming events include: June 14, farm voucher program at the Tamaqua salvation Army; June 26, trip to Shady Maple in Lancaster.The group is open to anyone 55 or older.Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.
