Each Memorial Day members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Walnutport, join the Auxiliary to the R.W. Fritzinger VFW Post 7215 in a program begun several years ago to brighten the Walnutport Park with bows on the trees and flowers at the veterans monument.
The United States and POW-MIA flags are replaced with new ones and a memorial service is held. Auxiliary President Karen Bandzi and Senior Vice Commander Myron Strohl performed the flag changeover. The monument is "Dedicated to the noble deeds of Walnutport's men and women who served their country in World War I and II, Korea and Vietnam."Sue Bortz, auxiliary chaplain, said, "Almighty God, in your hands are the living and the dead. We give you thanks for all those of our comrades and sisters who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. May they rest in peace and may their light perpetually shine upon their good work of seeking justice for the oppressed and peace for all mankind."VFW Commander Carl Ellis asked people to show respect to our departed comrades.
