Two people were killed in a fiery crash along Interstate 81 in Butler Township, Schuylkill County, on Wednesday afternoon.
State police at Frackville said the deadly crash occurred at 2:17 p.m. in the northbound lanes, south of the Frackville exit, and involved four vehicles.The crash occurred as traffic was slowing due to a construction zone ahead. Two of the vehicles became totally engulfed in flames, including a pickup truck where the two victims were. Another person involved in the crash was seriously injured and flown by medical helicopter to a trauma center.Troopers said Brian Barrett, 45, of Greentown, Pike County, was driving a 1990 International truck tractor hauling a 1997 Fruehauf trailer when his rig struck the rear of a Nissan Rogue pickup truck. The Rogue's front then struck the rear of a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Bryan Ketcham, 24, of Hop Bottom, Susquehanna County. The Ram's front end then struck the rear of a trailer of a 2005 Volvo truck tractor operated by Roman Zhuk, 50, of Feasterville, Bucks County.Two people in the Rogue were killed and pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner. Ketcham was flown to a trauma center. Barrett and Zhuk were not injured. The coroner's office is assisting troopers in the identification of the deceased.All vehicles involved had to be towed.The northbound lanes were closed for several hours due to the crash and resulting investigation.
