Longtime Kresgeville eatery going to auction

Anyone who has ever spent more than a few minutes in Kresgeville has eaten at Cherry’s Sunset Diner.

The grilled sticky buns are reason enough to travel miles out of your way. Unfortunately that all may be coming to an end soon.On Jan. 15, Cherry’s owner, Richard Cherry passed away at age 57.Cherry’s daughter Amber Garis has been running the restaurant since his passing.Garis posted a note on the restaurant’s Facebook page on Tuesday announcing the family’s decision to put the business up for auction.“I’ve realized over the past few months that following in my father’s footsteps and mourning his loss at the same time is too much for me to bear,” Garis said in her post.“This restaurant and its patrons deserve someone who can devote themselves to it and I am just not capable of giving it the love it needs.”Garis went on the say that it is the family’s hope that the new owners would try to keep on the existing staff and that the family intends to stay up and running until the new owners take over. The post also noted the recent “unexpected” closings due to staffing problems and apologized for any inconvenience to Cherry’s regular patrons. The auction is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 26.Garis declined to say more at this time.
