Low voter turnout in Monroe

During Wednesday morning’s commissioner’s meeting, Monroe County chairman John Moyer took a few minutes to congratulate all of the candidates who took the time and effort to run for public office. Moyer said that he knows that it is a hard decision to make and wanted to congratulate all of those who ran whether they won or not.

Moyer added that while all of the numbers aren’t in yet, it appears as though overall there was a 10 percent voter turnout for the primary election.“It a seems that we have gone from a historically high voter turnout at the last general election,” Moyer said. “To a possibly historic low voter turn out.”Moyer said that the absentee ballots are in the process of being counted and the write-in votes will be finished being counted by Friday.
