'Our Town' interviews filming in Tamaqua

It won't be long before Tamaqua is in the limelight as part of a one-hour video memento set to air next month.

The broadcast premier of "Our Town," Tamaqua, will air on WVIA at 8 p.m. June 12. It will also be livestreamed on Facebook Live at that time.Recently, interviewees filled out paperwork and were seated for interviews at LCCC Tamaqua.A series of community/volunteer meetings were held beginning last month, according to Joe Krushinsky, vice president of advancement strategy at WVIA.Krushinsky said three meetings were held at LCCC to get people brainstorming as to what storylines should be included for Tamaqua. He said they set a taping date to do interviews with any people who wanted to bring forth stories, photographs or videos, and 32 attended. They then scheduled an additional taping day, and an additional 22 came out for that, for a total of 54 interviews."The puzzle now is how do you get all of that information into a one-hour program," said Krushinsky, the show's producer. "We have wonderful visuals; everybody brought something a little bit different. I'm really excited about it."Krushinsky added, "It is a video postcard from a community to the rest of the world told in the voices of the people who live in the town.""Everyone's been very receptive," he said. "People are really rallying around it, and we've been attracting sponsorships for the program."Krushinsky said sponsors will be recognized on the telecast anytime the program airs, as well as on the DVD that will be distributed afterward."I think that everybody in the town that worked on it should feel proud of what they put together, and I hope that everybody else will enjoy it and find a sense of pride in their hometown."Krushinsky said anyone interested in sponsorship opportunities should contact Vanessa Gerhard, administrative assistant, Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, at 570-668-1880."Our Town," Tamaqua was originally supposed to debut on WVIA on June 8, but that would conflict with the Tamaqua Has Heart event on the same day.
