There are Democratic nomination challenges for both the four-year and two-year terms that are open on the Jim Thorpe Area School Board.
Four people are expected to be elected in November, and there are five Democrats aspiring to win four nominations in the primary. Four of them are also on the GOP ballot, where they are unopposed.
Running on the Democratic side are John P. Ciavarella Jr., Gerald Strubinger, Glenn F. Confer Sr., Dennis J. McGinley Jr. and Ron Marciante. One will be left out on that ticket.
All but Ciavarella are also running on the Republican ballot and are virtually assured to win those four nominations.
Meanwhile, there are two two-year terms on the board to be decided. Running for nominations on the Democratic side are Ciavarella, Marciante and Matthew C. Schutter. The latter two are cross-filed on the Republican ballot and are likely to advance to November in that balloting.
Schutter has moved out of the district. His name appears on the ballot because he relocated after the deadline to remove names from the ballot had passed.
