Crime spree for drug money leads to state prison sentence

An Albrightsville woman’s short crime spree to get money to pay for her and her then boyfriend’s drug habit, led to a state prison term on Thursday in Carbon County court.

Tara Marie Good, 31, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve a total of nine months to three years in a state correctional institution after entering guilty pleas to two counts of criminal trespass, three counts of forgery and one count each of access device fraud and theft.Nanovic rejected a request by court-appointed defense counsel Brian Collins to sentence Good to a county prison term, noting that her crime spree occurred in September 2015 and was fueled by her drug habit and that of her then boyfriend and accomplice in the crimes, Ryan Kristiansen, of Jim Thorpe.Collins said before Good’s arrest to the crimes, she had no criminal record. He said she is a mother of three who got hooked on heroin by Kristiansen, who she got into a relationship with after her marriage broke up.He added she went into an inpatient program for 33 days and has been getting counseling while at the county prison, where she is an inmate.Good told Nanovic, “I’ll never be back again. I want to get back my kids.”Nanovic noted, however, that after she left the inpatient facility she was caught using drugs again. He said she can’t blame that on Kristiansen, because he is in jail. On July 11, 2016, Judge Joseph J. Matika sentenced Kristiansen to serve 18 to 36 months in a state correctional institution for the same crimes as Good.Nanovic added, “I realize the difficulties you have had in your life, but the state system offers the type of programs you need to help your addiction.”Mahoning Township police charged Good for incidents on Sept. 16, 19 and 20, 2016. She participated in entries to two residences in the township. Kristiansen entered the homes while Good waited outside. Removed were various items including cash and jewelry. The jewelry was pawned in Lehighton for cash to buy heroin. During one of the entries a victim’s credit card was taken and used by Good to make several transactions as stores in the township. In addition to the prison term, which will be followed by two years of probation, Good was ordered to make total restitution to the victims of $3,532.04, which is her half-share of the total amount due. She must also get a drug and alcohol evaluation, supply a DNA sample, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and pay court costs of about $1,000.She was given credit for a total of 276 days spent in jail on the charges. It was noted with the credit given in two of the three case, she has about five or more months to serve before reaching her minimum.
