Palmerton woman who fired shot gets probation

A Palmerton woman was placed on a long probation term on Friday morning in Carbon County court after the presiding judge was told the victim in the case did not want to pursue the matter.

Judge Steven R. Serfass placed Sue A. Diehl, 50, on 18 months probation on a charge of recklessly endangering another person.She previously pleaded to the charge with the district attorney's office dropping counts of terroristic threats and discharging a firearm in a structure.On Sept. 10, 2016, Palmerton police responded to the 300 block ofLehigh Avenue, for a reported domestic with a firearm discharged. On scene police learned that Diehl and her husband had been involved in a domestic dispute in which she fired a shot from a .357-caliber revolver. Her husband managed to take the gun away from her. At the time of her plea, she told Serfass she did not intend to shoot her husband and fired the gun toward a television.Assistant District Attorney Joseph D. Perilli told the court her husband did not want to pursue the prosecution in the matter but the commonwealth felt that the case should proceed considering the facts.Serfass also ordered Diehl to get both mental health and drug and alcohol evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
