A Carbon County man is facing an extended prison term after pleading guilty on Monday to driving under the influence and driving under suspension - DUI related.
Edward Charles Kleintop, 45, of Lehighton, was told by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic that under mandatory sentencing guidelines of the state's drunken driving law, he faces a minimum of one year in jail. However, Nanovic said Kleintop's prior criminal record is also figured into the equation and that results in a standard range sentence of anywhere between 24 and 30 months minimum. The conviction is his third for DUI.Kleintop was arrested on Sept. 30by state police at Lehighton along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He was originally charged with 13 counts including possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a small amount of marijuana and six motor vehicle code violations.Nanovic deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
