The Pennsylvania Turnpike advises motorists it will be conducting tunnel maintenance today in the southbound Lehigh Tunnel of the Northeastern Extension (I-476) in Carbon County.
The work will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with single-lane patterns and two-way traffic going through the northbound tunnel. Motorists should be prepared for slow and stopped traffic.
Each day between 7:30 and 8 a.m., Turnpike maintenance crews will stop traffic for no more than 15 minutes in both directions in order to set up a crossover pattern directing all of the traffic into the northbound tunnel.
By 8 a.m. each day, the southbound tunnel will be closed and all of the traffic diverted into the northbound tunnel until 2 p.m. when the patterns are lifted. Additional work will be performed from 6 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Tuesday in the northbound tunnel.
Motorists should be prepared for nighttime single-lane patterns and two-way traffic in the southbound tunnel.
The Lehigh Tunnel is located at milepost A70-A71 between the Lehigh Valley, Exit 56, and Mahoning Valley, Exit 74, interchanges.
