Life for damaged boxes
Ever wonder what happens to products in damaged boxes in the store? They get a new lease on life at New Life Liquidation.
Robin Frey opened the store in early December with her husband Woody Frey. They also own Service Construction, PDC Spa and Pool World, and Body and Soul Storage. All of their businesses are family-owned and operated by them and their children.Sue Knappenberger, a store employee, said she enjoys working at the store.“They're great people to work for,” she said.New Life Liquidation is located on the third floor of the Body and Soul Complex at 701 Bridge St., Lehighton.“We’ve had a good response,” Frey said. “There’s a wide variety of things.”So far, they have had four truckloads of merchandise come in with more than a thousand items in each shipment. Frey said she never knows what is going to come in. It’s kind of like Christmas, but she has been pleasantly surprised with the items sent to her from the big-name stores.“Got a lot of drones,” she said. “Didn’t expect to get drones.”They range in size and cost $25 to $80.A technical gear enthusiast, Frey’s son just had to test each one.“He made sure they all work,” she said.Frey said they opened the store in order to provide good quality items at discount prices to local residents.“This is our little way of giving back to the community,” Frey said.Shopping there is almost like a treasure hunt. Behind the coolers and between the sports chairs hid a leather office chair. They have everything from clocks, towels, linens, housewares, toys, bikes, gas grills, and baby items to home improvement products, a draftsman table, a roadside construction cone and medical equipment like walkers and wheelchairs.“You could come in every week and find something new,” Frey said.Knappenberger said it can be tempting to want to buy some of the merchandise.“Sometimes you have to limit yourself,” she said. Most of the items are brand-new or overstocked and now reduced 30 to 40 percent less than before. Any item in a damaged box is priced 50 percent. It’s not impossible to find an item for $5 that was originally listed for $100, she said. Some of the items do have missing parts. But if that’s the case, then it is clearly written on the label. Customers are more than welcome to open the box and make sure everything is there before they purchase items, she said. The store does not take any pre-owned items from individuals or any consignment items. Everything is new or was a returned item to a store, she said.New Life Liquidations is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. It’s closed on Sunday and Tuesday.Cash, checks and credit and debit cards are accepted.Frey welcomes people to check out their Facebook page for new merchandise. They have a storage room filled with more merchandise just waiting for space to open in the store.
