Proposals are being accepted for the rehabilitation of a Lehighton bridge.
The borough will accept bids until 11:59 a.m. April 18 for the Ashtown Drive Bridge Rehabilitation Project on Ashtown Drive. Bids will be opened that day at noon.The bid results and successful bidder will be announced when borough council meets at 7 p.m. April 24.The work includes activities and materials to place install concrete underpinning along the two abutments and one center pier of the bridge structure; to provide road closure signage; water diversion; and erosion and sediment measures.A pre-bid conference will be held at the bridge at 2 p.m. April 4.Council agreed to advertise the project in December, per correspondence from Coleman Environmental Engineering LLC.Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said at that time the borough has been working with McMahon Transportation Engineers, which is the state Department of Transportation's bridge inspectors, on the substructure repairs to the bridge.Beckett said the borough received its Department of Environmental Protection permit in mid-2016 to enter the stream.She previously said the funds to pay for the project will come from Highway Aid.The borough has $75,000 budgeted for the project, Beckett previously said.
