"The focus of the board is to give this town and its residents a reason to get out, socialize and be proud of the direction in which we are headed."She added, "Following the Sesquicentennial Celebration and the first Christmas in the Park Weekend last year, we have come to the realization that while this town has changed drastically over the course of the past 150 years, one thing remains the same; we have an amazing community of residents, organizations and businesses, and that is absolutely something to celebrate."Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said the Parks and Recreation Board was established to lead and host community events."The board has plans to continue successful events from the Sesquicentennial Celebration, in addition to new ideas for festivals and celebrations," Beckett said. "We are very excited to work with the board to continue to provide opportunities to strengthen the community image and provide opportunities for togetherness."Clark Ritter, Parks and Recreation Board chairman, said the board currently has two openings."We are looking for volunteers, and also looking forward to working with the Lehighton Downtown Initiative, and the borough's Recreation Director, Tom Evans," Ritter said. The Parks and Recreation Board meets at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the borough municipal building.
