Crashes investigated by troopers
State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers in recent days.
• A hit-and-run crash was reported around 2 a.m. on March 11 along Burger Hollow Road in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said a vehicle was driven southbound when it left the road, went onto the shoulder and into the front lawn at 728 Burger Hollow Road, striking three bushes. The driver then fled the scene.• Two Monroe County residents are facing a charge of driving under the influence of a controlled substance following a two-vehicle crash reported at 4:45 p.m. on March 11 at the intersection of Weir Lake Road and Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Theresa Boyle, 38, of Stroudsburg, was stopped for a red light southbound on Weir Lake Road when her 2005 Kia Sedona was rear-ended by a 1999 Toyota 4Runner driven by Jennifer B. Spurr, 43, of Brodheadsville. Boyle complained of neck pain and was taken by West End ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono Campus in East Stroudsburg. Spurr and her passenger, Stephen J. Bachman, 53, of Brodheadsville, were not injured. Troopers said Spurr and Bachman both displayed signs of impairment and had switched seats after the crash occurred. As a result the two were subsequently arrested for DUI and taken to the county DUI center for processing.• Troopers investigated a crash at 6:25 a.m. Sunday along Mauch Chunk Street in Mahoning Township, Carbon County. F. Bahamundi-Roman, 34, of Yonkers, New York, and Terry L. Handlovic, 63, of Lansford, were both southbound. Troopers said Bahamundi-Roman was traveling too fast for conditions and rear-ended Handlovic's 2001 Honda CRV with the front of his 2016 Dodge Journey. After impact the Journey went out-of-control, driving up an embankment on the west side and overturning onto the driver's side. It came to rest on the southbound lane facing south on the driver's side. No one was injured. The Journey was towed from the scene. Troopers cited Bahamundi-Roman for driving at an unsafe speed. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Lehighton police and volunteers from the Mahoning Township Fire Company.• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 10:40 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Blue Mountain Drive and Mountain Trail Drive, in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Song Li, 24, of Bethlehem, was driving a 2014 Ford Escape northbound and attempting to negotiate a right turn onto Mountain Trail Drive and was traveling too fast for road conditions. As he began to turn, he lost control of the Escape, which began to spin clockwise. The Escape struck curbing, and due to its speed, continued across the center divider and came to rest in the eastbound lane of Mountain Trail Drive. Li was not injured but damages were termed heavy to the front end of the Escape, which was towed. Troopers cited Li for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.
