Lansford man sentenced in police chase that injured 4
A Lansford man will serve five to 12 years in state prison after an October 2015 police chase that injured four people.
Kevin L. Moore Jr., 35, pleaded no contest before Schuylkill County President Judge William E. Baldwin to four counts of aggravated assault, two of recklessly endangering another person and one each of fleeing or eluding police and possession of marijuana.He also pleaded guilty to two counts each of delivery of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility in separate cases in March and April 2016 in Tamaqua.Additional charges of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, two each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and accidents involving death or personal injury, and one each of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension-driving under the influence-related, failure to stop and give information, failure to drive at a safe speed, driving without a license, failure to keep right, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, and reckless driving were dropped.According to state police at Frackville, Moore was leading police on a high-speed chase through Mahanoy City at 1:25 a.m. Oct. 4, 2015, when he crossed the center line and crashed head-on into another car, injuring the three elderly women inside.The chase began in Mahanoy City around 1:10 a.m. after Mahanoy City police said they tried to stop Moore when they saw what they believed to be a drug transaction in the area of South Catawissa and West Spruce streets.It ended up along Brockton Mountain Road in Ryan Township at 1:25 a.m.The victims' car was being driven by Charlotte A. Shields, 69, of Saint Clair.Upon impact, the Shields' vehicle overturned and came to rest in the eastbound lane.Moore got out of his vehicle and ran away. He was caught a few hours later.Shields and her front-seat passenger, Diane E. Haney, 65, also of Saint Clair, and a passenger with Moore, William T. Lipshaw, 33, of Mahanoy City, were taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of moderate injuries. A back seat passenger with Shields, Anna M. Vockie, 90, of Saint Clair, was seriously injured and flown from the scene to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.She died in March 2016.
