Carbon County court - DUI
A Lehighton man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Tuesday afternoon to two counts of driving under the influence and one count of terroristic threats.
He was one of six defendants in pending DUI-related cases to enter a plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.State police arrestsNoah Paul Reed, 33, was arrested by state police at Lehighton on the two DUI cases. The first arrest occurred on June 19, 2015, along Bridge Street in Weissport, with the second on March 12, 2016, along Prospect Street in Weissport. In both cases a test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. A third DUI case was dropped in a plea agreement in which Reed pleaded to a summary offense of careless driving. That incident occurred on May 16, 2015, along Route 209 in Franklin Township, also filed by state police. A test in that case revealed the presence of a controlled substance.The threats charge stems from a Feb. 28, 2016, incident in Lansford. Borough police charged Reed with assaulting Thomas Laux at 212 W. Patterson St. In a plea bargain, charges of aggravated and simple assault were dropped.Matika deferred sentencing to a later date.Other pleasJohnny Eduardo DeLeon, 27, of Allentown, was arrested on Nov. 16, 2014, along Route 248 in Parryville by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.17 BAC. He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for violating conditions.Matika placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.John Michael Green, 46, of Philadelphia, was arrested on May 23, 2015, along Route 209 in Franklin Township at the turnpike on-off ramp by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Green can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Douglas Austin Howard, 45, of Lake Harmony, was arrested on April 20, 2016, along Route 209 at Rock Street in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.William Joseph Lloyd III, 27, of Germansville, Lehigh County, was arrested on Sept. 17 along Delaware Avenue by Palmerton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation. He is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison on other charges.John M. Schaeffer, 45, of Palmerton, was arrested on Oct. 9, 2016, along Delaware Avenue by Palmerton police. A test revealed a 0.10 BAC.Sentencing was deferred.Each defendant sentenced must pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee and follow all recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluations.
