People facing alcohol and opioid addiction may soon have another treatment option available to fight the battle.

Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission is currently working with Positive Recovery Solutions, a treatment program based out of Washington, Pennsylvania, to bring a mobile treatment unit, similar to a camper, to the area.Positive Recovery Solutions currently serves 20 counties on the western side of the state, according to Jamie Drake, executive director for the commission.Her office is hoping to help the company expand into the northeast through an expansion of the commission’s medication assisted treatment efforts.She said that the commission and Positive Recovery Solutions are hopeful that the program will be running in Carbon and Monroe counties by April 1.The mobile treatment unit would provide clients facing alcohol and opioid addiction with a once-a-month injection of Vivitrol, which blocks receptors and helps reduce cravings to use.“Vivitrol is another treatment option to add in dealing with the opioid epidemic,” Drake said, adding that the injection may not work for everyone, but is a safe alternative to treatment because there is no withdrawal if a person stops taking the injections.The injection is covered by most medical assistance plans and some third-party insurances.Drake said that once the program is running locally, the commission and the Single County Authority will look at ways to provide funding for those who are uninsured, while using case management to apply for Medical Assistance. For more information on the Positive Recovery Solutions program, visit
