A man was shot after a fight in Tamaqua Sunday morning.
The Tamaqua Police Department was dispatched Sunday morning to 225 Orwigsburg St. in Tamaqua just before 2 a.m. On scene, police found Gary Reidel, 36, lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the lower back.Reidel told police that Charles J. Heffelfinger Jr., 23, was the person who shot him.Reidel said they were arguing and Heffelfinger pulled out a 9 mm handgun from his waist area and dropped it on the street.He picked the handgun up and fired it twice, with one round striking Reidel.Both men had been drinking, police said.While police were on the scene, Heffelfinger came out of his house wearing only boxer shorts and was placed into custody.He was charged with attempted murder of the third degree, aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.Heffelfinger was arraigned before Magisterial District Justice James Reilly and bail was set at $75,000 straight cash.Unable to post bail, he was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison. Reidel was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest by the emergency medical service.
