Attorney accused of stealing $50K from Allentown couple

A disbarred Lehigh Valley attorney has been accused of stealing $50,000 from a couple who thought they were paying estate taxes for a deceased loved one.

Glenn D. McGogney, 70, of Upper Macungie Township, is accused of stealing money from a couple that he was representing as executors of an estate to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, resulting in years of tax delinquency for the victims. He was disbarred in 2012.When the alleged crimes occurred in 2009, McGogney was representing the victims as executors of a deceased Allentown man's estate.McGogney allegedly told the couple, identified as Christopher and Tammy Cruz of Allentown, that they owed about $42,000 in taxes to the state of Pennsylvania. But the state would tell them they still owed the money up until five years later. When the victims contacted McGogney, he told them that he would take care of the situation. But when they asked their bank, they found that McGogney had deposited the funds into his own account, and never paid the inheritance tax.Last September, they approached police, leading them to investigate McGogney.McGogney now faces felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property. An arraignment was held Feb. 3.He is currently out on $50,000 unsecured bail.- Chris Reber
