Lehighton Borough Council, on a 6-0 vote, with Councilman Darryl Arner absent, approved:
• Borough Manager Nicole Beckett as the Public Information Officer. Her duties will include informing the public and additional audiences during an incident.• Agreed to have the borough solicitor draft an ordinance to address blight. Council recently hired the Gulotta Group to provide technical assistance regarding blight within the community.• Increased the borough's tax collector to 2.75 percent.• The purchase of a Neopost Folder/Inserter for the borough's Utility Building Office in the amount of $7,874.• Appointed Valerie Dailey to the borough's Parks & Recreation Board.• Adopted a resolution to sell the borough police department's 2006 Ford Crown Victoria for $807.• Granted the Lehighton Downtown Initiative Farmer's Market permission to use the lower park.• Approved the repository for unsold properties to include three vacant lots on Bankway Street.• Approved the 2017 Fire Department Training Contract.• Corrected this year's salary for the borough's Public Works Assistant supervisor to $48,000.• Approved the fourth Annual Earth Day Hippie Run/Walk April 22 at the Trailhead.• Granted the Ragnar Relay permission to allow their participants to come through the borough on June 2-3.
