Thank you to fire companies

Phenomenal, amazing, miraculous, unbelievable, heroic, extreme courageousness, dedication - these are just a few words that come to mind when describing the actions of the firefighters who volunteered their time and energy risking their own safety to battle the blazing fire at the 256 N. Second St., Lehighton, apartment building on Jan. 9.

We watched nervously in awe, witnessing the bravery and stamina of all those involved working in the frigid conditions. Some fell on the ice, got right up and kept at it and persevered to keep the fire contained to the apartment building. We were always hopeful, cheering them on and praying at the same time, since our home is just a few yards away. They did an outstanding, fantastic job and saved our home.Words cannot express how much we sincerely appreciate what you've done and continue to do for your communities. We cannot thank everyone involved enough for everything that was done. We are extremely blessed to still have our home thanks to all of you wonderful people! You are the true heroes of our communities! To the borough and township officials, we'd like to suggest that these volunteers receive at least some form of a tax break. They give selflessly of their time, lose sleep and risk their lives and ask for nothing in return. Let's show them some appreciation. If there's already something in the works, I stand corrected. Our hearts go out to all of those people who lost their home, but are thankful you are all safe. We'd also like to give a special thanks to friends and family who offered support and encouragement that day, especially to Ray, Linda and Brian for giving us a warm place to stay Monday and Tuesday.Every day since then we feel especially blessed to have our home, thanks to all of your brave people. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!!Gail and Larry KocherLehighton
