Lehighton residents may eventually see an increase in their electric bill.
However, borough council recently tabled action on the matter of a potential electric rate increase.Borough Manager Nicole Beckett told council a rate study was recently conducted by Utility Engineers.She said that per the study, a rate increase of 8.02 percent was recommended at that time.The rate study will continue to be evaluated for a recommendation to council.The borough reviews its rates periodically.Lehighton is one of 35 communities in the state that distributes electricity to its community.Locally, it’s one of two municipalities in Carbon County that actually has public power, with Weatherly being the other.Lehighton has owned and operated a municipal electric system since 1943.
