Man rams into police car after chase in Polk

A man who led Pennsylvania state troopers on a chase Monday in Monroe County is in custody.

Edward Jones, 34, of Brodnax, Va., faces charges of aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, drug possession, drug paraphernalia possession, driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, receiving stolen property, unauthorized transfer or use of registration, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, and violations of use of certificated of inspection.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Nicolas De La Iglesia of the Pennsylvania State Police:At 11:20 p.m., Trooper Justin Magluilo saw two vehicles enter the parking lot of Glen Brook Auto Sales, 1124 Interchange Road, Polk Township.One vehicle was a green BMW with a nonfunctional driver's side headlamp, while the other was a 2004 Land Rover.Magluilo told Jones not to start the Land Rover. Jones, however, fled the parking lot.Magluilo pursued the vehicle with his emergency lights and siren activated while Jones traveled south on Route 209, north on Burger Hollow Road, and west on Maple Spring Drive.When he reached the end of the cul-de-sac, Jones then rammed the front end of his vehicle into the front end of Magluilo's marked patrol unit.Jones drove off, traveling east on Maple Spring Drive, north on Burger Hollow Road, west on Merwinsburg Road, south on Jonas Road, west on Route 534, and ultimately crashed shortly after turning south on Old Stage Road.The roadways were wet from rain and melting winter conditions.Jones got out of the car and ran, but was taken into custody.His driver's license was suspended, and a PA registration was entered into NCIC as stolen and belonging to Otto's Auto Sales.The vehicle had a fraudulent inspection sticker. In the driver's side door police found drug paraphernalia, including a blue eyeglass container that contained suspected drug paraphernalia, such as a cut straw, and several empty glassine packets. Also, two digital scales and a small baggie containing a white powder substance suspected of being crack cocaine were also discovered.A passenger was in the car during the chase.Shortly after Jones crashed, De La Iglesia arrived on scene and asked Jones if he had any prior contact with the police, and he said that he is a drug addict.His eyes appeared blood shot, and he said that he had used cocaine about an hour before the incident.Jones was transported to the Monroe County DUI center and a blood test was taken.Police determined that Jones was wanted by Mecklenburg County in Virginia for failure to appear for a felony offense of possession with intent to distribute schedule controlled substances.Jones is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Monday before District Judge Jolana Krawitz of Stroudsburg.He remains incarcerated in the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail.
