An Albrightsville man who once showed up inebriated to a court hearing told a Carbon County court judge he is now clean and sober.
"Alcohol consumed your life as you consumed it," Judge Joseph J. Matika told Kurt T. Fischer, 53.Fischer, 53, on Oct. 18 pleaded guilty to simple assault.He had been charged by Kidder Township police with simple assault, endangering the welfare of children, harassment and recklessly endangering another person on April 29, 2015.Matika read the presentence investigation report done on Fischer, which detailed his work to stop drinking and turn his life around.It included comments from Fischer's 13-year-old son, who said, "I love my dad very much. Things are much better now.""You've made a change," Matika told Fischer.Matika sentenced Fischer to 18 months of probation on the charge of simple assault, and ordered him to perform 75 hours of community service."Thank you very much for allowing me to spend Christmas with my children," Fischer told Matika."You earned it," the judge said.
