Plesh named to All-State team

The play of Marian's Kyle Plesh this past season was hard to ignore.

Plesh was a force for the Colts on both sides of the ball, proving to be as dynamic on offense as he was disruptive on the defensive front. That versatility didn't go unnoticed, as Plesh was named Monday to the 2016 Pennsylvania Football Writers Class 1A All-State football team.Plesh, who had 120 tackles for the Colts this past fall, including five sacks and 16 tackles for loss, was selected to the team as a defensive lineman."We're very proud of him," said Marian's Stan Dakosty. "He's very athletic. He runs really well. He cuts really well. And he works hard."He's been a very strong leader for our team."While Plesh made his mark on defense, the 6-0, 249-pound senior also showed an ability to make plays on offense, recording 29 carries for 117 yards while also scoring three touchdowns this past season."We were getting ready for practice one day and I saw him catching the football," Dakosty recalled. "I thought, 'We have something special here. We have to get him in on offense.'"Plesh remembers the meeting vividly."He called me down to his office one day and asked me if I would play fullback," Plesh said. "The lineman's dream is to score a touchdown, and I got to do that."Plesh's willingness to play wherever his team needed is something that has stood out to Dakosty more than any touchdown or sack."He is a multifaceted, multitalented player, and that has been very important to the success of our program," Dakosty said. "We stress all the time, you can be a position player or you can be a football player."Plesh is part of a senior class that has played a key role in helping the Colts play in three District 11 Class A championship games (2014, 2015, 2016) and an Eastern Conference title tilt (2013) in the past four years."We're not a big school, so that's been very important to have guys that are looking at how they can help the team," Dakosty noted. "As a coach, it's been a pleasure to watch him grow and mature - as a player and as a young man."Plesh was equally complimentary of Dakosty."I couldn't have asked for a better coach," he said. "To be able to be a part of his 300th win, and a district championship, has been great."Coming to Marian was the best decision of my life."This is the third time in the last four seasons that Marian has been represented on the All-State team. In 2013, the Colts' Lukas Damian was named to the team, and in 2014 Marian was represented by both Nick Sully and Joe Damiano. The Class 1A, 3A and 5A teams were all released on Monday. The Class 2A, 4A and 6A teams will all be released today. In addition to Plesh, 10 other District 11 players were named to the all-state teams. In Class 1A, Williams Valley placed four players on the squad - junior running back Dylan Rabuck, junior defensive lineman Devon Rabuck, senior offensive lineman Ian Minnich and junior linebacker Dylan Wolfgang. Tri-Valley junior Danny Scheib also made the team as an athlete. In Class 3A, North Schuylkill senior linebacker Major Jordan, Pen Argyl senior defensive end Austin Heisler and Notre Dame senior athlete Jalen Simpson made the team.In Class 5A, Whitehall had two players on the team - junior wide receiver Dez Boykin and senior defensive back Jackson Buskirk.
