"If it wasn't for the help of the borough council and the people of Palmerton, we wouldn't be able to do half of these projects."In the resolution, which Richard Nothstein read to the UVO members in attendance, the council thanked the veterans "for their time and efforts in honoring all who have served, and for helping to make Palmerton "A Nice Place to Live.""We've got a special bunch of people in our town that gave much of their time and risked their lives in the military, and through the years, they've done some super things. This year, 2016, was not an exception," Nothstein said before describing the veterans' efforts with the Moving Wall effort and the flagpole installation.Council member Bill Gallagher, also a UVO member, was proud and thankful for both the recognition and the ability to bestow it upon his fellow servicemen."I appreciate it very much, and I know all of the members of the UVO appreciate that the town recognizes what they have done for the town, with the wall and the flagpole," Gallagher said. "The support we get from the council, and Mr. Nothstein especially, it is greatly appreciated."UVO member Steve Vlossak finished the ceremony by reading a message he had written and presented on the closing evening of the Moving Wall, honoring those who had served."Take us to a place of peace," Vlossak read. "Take us to a place with green grass, running streams and mountains. Take us to a town that is small, yet full of life, and full of good and kind people. Take us where our brother veterans can see us, talk to us, and pray for us. Take us where we can visit our families, shed some tears, but also smiles of our joyful memories. Take us where we are treated with honor and respect. Take us to a place where we will never be forgotten. Take us to Palmerton."
