Snow expected after 10 tonight

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a winter weather advisory for snow,sleet and freezing rain. It is in effect from 10 p.m. this evening until 600 pm Saturday.

Dangerous wind chill values this morning will give way for snow, sleet and freezing rain tonight into Saturday.

The forecast calls for ice accumulations of less than a tenth of an inch on Saturday, with up to 3 to 5 inches from tonight into Saturday.

Snow is forecast to build into the region tonight. The snow is expected to change to sleet and freezing rain during the late morning and early afternoon Saturday, then to rain by Saturday evening.

Overnight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 9. Wind chill values as low as -3. West wind around 10 mph.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 25. Wind chill values as low as -1. West wind 5 to 7 mph.

Friday Night: Snow, mainly after 10pm. Low around 16. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday: Snow and sleet before noon, then rain or freezing rain between noon and 1pm, then rain likely after 1pm. High near 38. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday Night: A chance of rain before 7pm, then showers, mainly after 1am. Low around 38. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday: Rain showers likely before 5pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 46. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: A chance of snow showers before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
