VFW provides Thanksgiving dinners and more to 9 families

The Auxiliary to R.W. Fritzinger VFW Post 7215, Walnutport, collected food for nine families in Walnutport and the surrounding area. On Nov. 23, they packed the food in boxes and carried it to the parking lot, where people were ready to deliver.

Hams and turkeys were donated by Country Harvest and pies by Dance with Kim. Fred Phillips gave Forest Wessner III credit for the donation of 150 pounds of potatoes. Karen Bandzi, president of the auxiliary; Mick Minnich; and Sixx Neff spent a day at Country Harvest requesting donations and five hours at Redners.Bandzi said, "We hauled all this stuff in here and now we have to take it out again."She said they were overwhelmed with the generosity. Five tables were piled high with food and there was runover on the floor. It is the 14th year the auxiliary has been making the donations to local families, and the food delivered will help past the holiday.

Mick Minnich, Sue Bortz and Karen Bandzi pack boxes to be taken out to the cars.
