Rush Township approves 2017 tax rate

It appears as if residents who live in Rush Township will not see an increase in their taxes next year.

That's after the township's board of supervisors on Thursday agreed to advertise the 2017 budget for public inspection for 20 days.Board Chairman Shawn Gilbert said that sewer fees will increase by $6 per quarter for Hometown residents, and by $4 per quarter for Lake Hauto residents as a result of an increase the township has to pay.Hometown's new sewer rates will be $178, while Lake Hauto's will be $144.There are no other increases associated with next year's budget.Next year's spending plan would leave the tax rate at 5.62 mills if no changes are made before the final adoption.The board plans to grant the budget final adoption when it meets at 7 p.m. Dec. 15.Other businessIn other action, supervisors:• Granted waivers from a section of the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance for the TIDE Subdivision & Trans Western Polymers Land Development Plan, and granted final approval of the plan under the conditions that they obtain approval from the Schuylkill Conservation District, and receive comments from the Schuylkill County Planning Commission.• Granted a waiver from a section of the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance for the Ankiewicz Land Development Plan, and granted conditional final approval of the plan under the conditions that they address plan comments contained in the ARRO Consulting Inc. review correspondence dated Sept. 28, and obtain approval from the Schuylkill Conservation District, as well as receive comments from the Schuylkill County Planning Commission.• Approved a resolution authorizing the filing of an application with the Department of Community & Economic Development for the Home Program.• Approved Prodesign Plus to complete the certification of the single application for the Home Program.• Announced that in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the township's municipal office will be closed Nov. 24-25, and that ash pickup for next week will be on Wednesday.• Announced that the board would like to invite residents to its Cookies & Cocoa with Santa from 7-9 p.m. Dec. 9.
