'Tis the season
Take a walk or drive through Lansford over the next few weeks, and you'll notice a lot more color in the windows of businesses around town.
That's thanks to students at Panther Valley and CCTI, who have joined with the nonprofit Lansford Alive to get the town in the holiday spirit.About two dozen students from Kimberlee Burkett's art class fanned across the Ridge Street commercial area to paint wintry scenes on the windows of businesses. It's the second year that Panther Valley students have been painting the windows in Lansford."The kids really enjoy it. This is great community outreach," Burkett said. "It creates a positive rapport between the students and the businesses."The event expanded this year to a total of 32 businesses. That is five more than in 2015.Mary Soto, who serves on the Lansford Alive board, called the project a "win-win for students and the town.""It helps the town, and gives the students a place to show off their artwork," she said. The students concentrated hard as they dabbed acrylic paint onto the windows using sponges and paintbrushes. Even their bus driver, Candy Knappenberger, got in on the painting."I like the kids, and I like the art," she said.Panther Valley Junior Beatrice Petschauer freehand sketched a moose that she painted on the window of Kiddie Kapers Daycare. She chose the design for her brother, who attends the day care."My brother likes moose," she said. "He's a sweetheart. He's only 4."The CCTI students actually used their graphic design background to design their windows. They then transferred the patterns onto the window and painted within the lines, creating some eye-popping images."We were very happy they called us to do this," said Maritza Reinbold, a paraprofessional at CCTI.
