Schuylkill County judges have recently handled a number of cases involving local people.
Guilty pleasDennis W. Helfrich, 44, address not known: Charged by Tamaqua police with taking food on Nov. 13, 2015, from Boyers Market.Helfrich pleaded guilty to retail theft.Judge John E. Domalakes sentenced him to six to 23 months in prison, to pay court costs and fees, and $201 in restitution.A charge of receiving stolen property was dropped.Kathy Lewiski,51, Tamaqua: Charged by Tamaqua police with driving under the influence while her license was suspended on June 6. She pleaded guilty to the charges, and Judge Charles M. Miller sentenced her to 60 days on house arrest with electronic monitoring, to pay court costs and fees, and fined her $500.Parole revocationsCarly Fairchild,22, Coaldale: Charged by Coaldale police with possession of drug paraphernalia on Oct. 14, 2014.Domalakes her parole and sent her back to prison and ordered her to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation.Fairchild could remain in prison until July 9, 2017. She can be considered for parole again in three months.Joseph M. Vidzicki Jr.,30, of Tamaqua: Charged by state police at Frackville with forgery, theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle on June 4, 2015.Charges of receiving stolen property and driving under suspension were dropped.President Judge William E. Baldwin revoked Vidzicki's parole and probation and sent him back to prison. He can be considered again for parole on Dec. 1.He also placed Vidzicki on probation for 23 months.Vidzicki had pleaded guilty on May 27 to the charges, and Baldwin had placed him on probation for 23 months.Angelo V. Maldonado,27, of Tamaqua: Charged by Rush Township police with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia on May 21, 2013.Judge James P. Goodman revoked his parole and probation and sent him back to prison. Maldonado cannot be considered again for parole until Jan. 24, 2017.Maldonado had pleaded guilty to the charges on Dec. 30, 2014. Goodman had sentenced him to six days to 12 months in prison and to pay court costs and fees.Alexander J. Modawar,36, Lansford: Charged by Rush Township police with retail theft and receiving stolen property on Aug. 6, 2015.Goodman revoked his probation and sent him back to jail for three to 18 months.Modawar had pleaded guilty on May 18, and was sentenced to 23 months on probation.Bail modificationsGina M. McGinley,50, Tamaqua: Charged by Pottsville police with defiant trespass/actual communication on Aug. 14.Goodman agreed to reduce her bail to $5,000 unsecured. He ordered her to remain at an address in Tamaqua, appear for court hearings, and avoid drugs and alcohol.
