Teens rescued from rock wall

Two teenagers were rescued off a rock wall without incident Thursday evening in Mahoning Township.

The operation began just after 6 p.m. when the boys scaled a cliff behind the Carbon Plaza Mall along Route 443 and realized they could go no farther. The two were fearful to climb back down, and after an hour of clinging to the wall, they called for help.Upon arrival, firefighters set up ladders against the wall to help the two to safety, said Mahoning Valley Volunteer Fire Company Fire Chief Mark Ebbert."We set up some ladders, used some ropes and safety belts," Ebbert said. "They put on some safety belts, and we helped them to the top of the ladder, down the ladder, to the ground."Ebbert said there were no injuries, and that the rescue was fairly simple. Also assisting at the scene were the Mahoning Valley Ambulance, as well as Mahoning Township Police Department, he said.
