Palmerton plans annual Halloween parade
The Palmerton Area Chamber of Commerce will be holding its 25th annual Halloween Parade on Oct. 16.
"The parade brings the community together in a fun positive way that puts a smile on so many faces," parade chairwoman Susan Arner said. "It's a great chance for quality family time, and everyone needs that."Participants are being asked to check in at 7th Street and Delaware Avenue. on the day of the parade in order to receiving location and parking directions.The parade will start in the area of 7th Street and Delaware Avenue as well as the 600 and 700 blocks of Franklin and Lafayette avenues, depending upon the number of parade entries.The group will travel along 7th Street to Lafayette Avenue, down Lafayette Avenue to 2nd Street, left to Franklin Avenue, left to 3rd Street, right to Delaware Avenue, and then return to the start at 7th Street.Anyone interested in participating may submit a registration form to the chamber by Oct. 10. Monetary prizes will be awarded for each category, including individuals, groups, small and large floats, automotive, decorated automotive, patriotic, and municipal equipment."I am sure it will be the usual four division parade, filled with ghosts, goblins, princesses and superheroes, just to name a few," Arner said. "It's a great chance for any and all to show their community spirit and their fun, creative side."Palmerton and neighboring fire police are being contacted to help aid with traffic control and safety measures for participants and spectators. Parking along the parade route and starting points will be prohibited from 2 p.m. until the conclusion of the event. Anyone distributing candy is asked to walk alongside the street as the parade goes by. The chamber of commerce is requesting that onlookers not throw candy at the floats and vehicles.In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for Oct. 17, with formation at 6 p.m., followed by the parade at 7 p.m.Contact Arner at 610-826-7515 or Jane Stroup at 610-826-6749 with any questions.
