Four Times News area volleyball teams pick up victories
Several area volleyball teams enjoyed success Thursday night, as Lehighton, Panther Valley, Pleasant Valley and Marian all picked up victories.
VOLLEYBALLBlue Mtn.-Jim ThorpeBlue Mountain swept Jim Thorpe 25-14, 25-13, 25-18 in a Schuylkill League match.Alexandra McGinley had 12 digs, Mackenzie Rosenberger had six and Joclyn Day added seven for the Olympians. Jillian Peterson recorded two blocks.The Eagles prevailed in the JV game, 2-1.Minersville-Panther Vy.Panther Valley swept Minersville 25-15, 25-19, 26-24 in a Schuylkill League contest.Danielle Hudicka recorded her 500th assist for the Panthers (9-1, 7-1). Hudicka added five aces, five digs and four kills. Rachelle Filer had 10 kills and three blocks; Jenna Dubosky had three kills and five aces; and Christina Dacey finished with 11 assists, six aces and six kills.Lehighton-N. SchuylkillLehighton pulled out a 3-1 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill, 25-17, 19-25, 25-19, 25-12.Katie Higgins compiled 21 kills and six aces, along with 22 digs to lead the Tribe, while Emily Haberman had 28 assists, three aces and five digs.Cassy Gower's 10 and Vanessa Ahner's seven kills powered Lehighton's offense.With the win, the Indians improve to 8-4 overall.Lehighton also won the JV contest, 2-0.Marian-HalifaxMarian made quick work of Halifax in three sets, 25-19, 25-23, 25-10.Jasmine Mooney blasted 19 kills and totaled 18 digs to lead the Fillies, while Gianna Agosti put up 31 assists with five digs and Toni Galasso backed them up with 16 digs.N'western-No. Dame-GPNotre Dame prevailed in a Colonial League match over Northwestern, 25-15, 25-14, 25-9.Kayla Vaught put together six kills, three blocks and four aces, while Jess Appleton had six kills and four blocks. Kylene Bain totaled 26 assists.Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy.Pleasant Valley took three straight off Stroudsburg in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action, 25-14, 25-8, 25-15.Andrea Janak totaled 11 assists, and Cameron Caffrey added nine feeds and seven digs. Noel Kelly fired 11 kills, while adding two aces, five digs and a block.
