The Jim Thorpe Area High School Boys Soccer Team recently sponsored an "Honor Our Veterans/PTSD Awareness Game."
The team has begun the 22 push up challenge and will be encouraging others to begin at their soccer game versus Lehighton.The goal is to have at least 222 people join them on the field at half time to participate. The 22 push up challenge raises awareness for veterans who are losing their battle with post traumatic stress disorder and the result is an estimated 22 veterans a day taking their own lives. More than $2,000 was raised by the 197 participants.School board members, faculty, parents, players and local dignitaries were invited.T-shirts, baked goods and food were on sale.Canned goods and money was raised for the Valor House.Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon spoke and dedicated his push ups to Michael Wargo Sr., who lost his son to PTSD.Veterans held flags as the starting line up was announced and the teams ran passed them to take the field,.Robin Smith sang the national anthem.
