Replacement of the bridge over the Pohopoco Creek on Merwinsburg Road in Chestnuthill Township has begun. One of several bridges scheduled to be replaced in Monroe County this summer under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project being administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
A detour is in place which takes drivers along Route 115 to Jonas Road to avoid the closure.The Rapid Bridge Replacement Projects are part of a Public/Private partnership between the state and Plenary Walsh. The plan is to replace 558 bridges in Pennsylvania over a three-year period. 2016 is year two of the plan.The new bridges are guaranteed for 25 years and designed to last 100 years.Two bridge replacements in Chestnuthill Township have already been completed this summer. The Route 715 bridge over McMichaels Creek and a bridge on Sugar Hollow Road over the Sugar Hollow Creek.The Merwinsburg Road bridge is scheduled to be complete in November.Residents can sign up online at
