Defendants entered guilty pleas in pending criminal cases before Judge Joseph J. Matika in Carbon County court on Tuesday.
Jacob Alexander Bloss, 21, of Beaver Meadows, pleaded to one count of burglary, a felony.He was arrested for his part in the entry of two businesses in Beaver Meadows and Packer Township on March 12. He is currently an inmate in the county prison on a detainer from the office of District Judge Joseph Homanko of Weatherly.Bloss told Matika what he did was "sheer stupidity." Matika agreed.Matika sentenced him to time served (108 days) to one day less 24 months in the county prison, and ordered he make restitution totaling $3,641.20, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, supply an DNA sample and stay out of the two businesses. He will remain in custody on the detainer.Brian William Eck,38, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.He was arrested on June 17 by Lansford police for an incident in the200 block ofEast Kline Avenue. Officers responded to a report of a domestic incident. On scene, Eck's girlfriend told them he had choked her during an argument.Matika deferred sentencing. Eck is currently an inmate in the county prison, unable to post bail on the charges.Tiffany Ann Davis,31, of West Hazleton, and formerly of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of false identification to law enforcement.She was arrested following a vehicle stop along Plane Street by Weatherly police. She was a passenger in the vehicle and gave a false name. She said he knew there was a warrant for her arrest and that was why she gave the false name.She is currently an inmate in the Luzerne County prison on other charges.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service when paroled. The term is consecutive with a sentence she is serving in Luzerne County.Malcolm Christian Scott,24, of Brooklyn, New York, pleaded to one count of possession of an instrument of crime.He was arrested following a vehicle stop along Interstate 80 in East Side Borough by state police at Fern Ridge on June 2. A search of his vehicle by a K-9 unit found 18 credit cards and 18 driver's licenses, all fraudulent.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.Robert Lee Clifford III,22, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of retail theft.He was arrested on May 29 at the Turkey Hill along Patterson Street by Lansford police.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to make restitution of $174.14 to Turkey Hill, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 50 hours of community service and stay out of the store.He is currently an inmate in the county prison facing a probation revocation proceeding.Joseph Ismael Camacho, 68, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of retail theft.He was arrested on Dec. 3, 2015, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store.Matika imposed a fine of $100 and ordered he make restitution of $112.28 to Walmart.Edward Leonard Rivera Jr., 31, of Minersville, and formerly of Tamaqua, pleaded to one count of receiving stolen property.He was charged for his part in an entry to a home along East Abbott Street by Lansford police. A television and assorted jewelry items were taken. There are two co-defendants in the case.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
