Officials sifting through rubble Saturday after an early morning fire hit a residential neighborhood said the cause is still unclear and a determination cannot be made at this point.
"It's undetermined," said police Chief Brian Markovchick of Weatherly at the scene Saturday. "It's still being investigated."
Markovchick said six residents were displaced in the 2 a.m. conflagration and no injuries were reported.
The names of the families affected were not available.
The fast-moving, three-alarm fire drew fire apparatus and first responders from Carbon, Schuylkill and Luzerne counties. Two 1800s-era wood-frame homes at the corner of Third and Pardee streets were gutted, with both turned into blackened shells.
Neighboring houses and those across the street sustained various amounts of damage, some with melted siding, melted window blinds and other heat and smoke-related damage.
At least one car parked on Pardee Street was damaged by falling debris.
Another fire shortly later in nearby Freeland caused damage a mobile home.
