Soup social

The next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held Saturday. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.For more information or to volunteer, stop by the church, 22 Lafayette St., or call 570-668-4139.Library newsIt's not too late to get in on the fun of the Tamaqua Public Library's young Adult/Teen Summer Reading program. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session. One guest, Hilde Manheart, was given a warm welcome.Ruthann Feane provided the inspirational reading "The Signature of God."Sylvia Houseman was added to the sick list. Members received information on a Sept. 22 fundraiser, which will be sponsored by the Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center.Refreshments were served.This week's meeting will include a guest speaker from the Social Security Administration who will provide information about Medicare. Upcoming events include: Aug. 11, picnic at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club in Clamtown; Aug. 15, trip to Mohegan Sun.The group meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.Free concertThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce's 10th annual free summer concert series continues this week with an evening of acoustic blues and blues rock presented by Crossroads Duo.Concerts are held from 6-8 p.m. Thursdays throughout the summer on the platform of the historic Tamaqua Train Station.Upcoming concerts include: Aug. 11, Whiskey Creek Acoustic, classic rock and blues; Aug. 18, Christopher Dean Band, rhythm and blues; and Sept. 1, Diaspora, classic rock.Anyone planning to attend is welcome to bring a lawn chair or make a reservation at the new Tamaqua Station Restaurant.Concerts are weather permitting.Spirit of ChristmasThe Tamaqua Spirit of Christmas Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15, at the LCCC Scheller Center on Van Gelder Street.Anyone interested in learning more about the festival is welcome to attend.Bethany ECThe Rev.
