At the top of Monday night's board meeting, East Penn Supervisors accepted the resignation of vice chairman and newly appointed roadmaster Richard DeLuca.
Deluca was not present at the meeting but the board passed a unanimous motion to send DeLuca a letter of appreciation stating they understand his new work responsibilities preclude him from continuing on the board. The remaining supervisors, Chairman William Schwab, Alice Berger, Deanna Cunfer and John Strockoz were left to decide whether to fill the vacancy immediately or to hold a special meeting to hear recommendations for the position.Berger nominated Steven Heckman, who had been a write-in candidate during the fall election. The board accepted Heckman to the position with Strockoz the only member opposed.Heckman was in attendance and was sworn in immediately. The newly appointed supervisor said he was unaware he would be nominated for the vacancy. Heckman serves on the planning commission for the township. The board then nominated and appointed township treasurer Deanna Cunfer to the role of vice chairwoman.
