Weatherly mayor to Gov. Wolf: Stop by for a visit

Weatherly's mayor is extending an invitation to Gov. Tom Wolf to visit the borough.

Tom Connors says he welcomes any opportunity to show off the borough. And now that the state has wrapped up its 2016-17 budget, he wants to extend the opportunity."I have a lot of respect for the governor. I'd like to show him the town and let him know what our plans are for the future," Connors said.Connors said he hopes to convince Wolf to visit because of the town's unique history. He announced his idea to borough council members at the regular meeting. He also wants to speak with the governor about a project that would transform the borough's local government functions. But the project depends on funding from Harrisburg.Borough officials have been working toward building new offices on a former industrial property located just off West Main Street. It would replace the cramped, century-old train station that is used as the borough office/police station. It would also include a new home for Magisterial District Judge Joseph Homanko, whose office is currently located in a strip mall in the borough. The project depends on funding from the state's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. Connors said the funds have been approved, but only Wolf has the power to actually release them to the borough. He said that he would also like to take Wolf on a tour of the borough and buy him lunch."You don't know unless you ask. I know he's important - but I hope he can come visit our town," he said.
