Legendary Palmerton basketball player Mlkvy dies at age 77

Legendary Palmerton basketball player and longtime Blue Ridge Communications TV-13 basketball announcer Bob Mlkvy died this weekend. Mlkvy turned 77 on Feb. 5.

Mlkvy scored 1,925 points in his career at Palmerton, the most by any boys player in school history. He earned All-State honors twice and led the Blue Bombers to the state championship game. He went on to star at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was the team's MVP for two seasons. In 2014, he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

In recent years, Mlkvy (a dentist in Palmerton) has been best known as the color commentator for basketball games on BRC TV13. He was popular for wearing his Chuck Taylor sneakers and "Dr. Bob's Board," which cheerleaders held while he diagramed a play.
