High school parking

The Tamaqua Area School District will have 74 parking spaces available for students for the 2015-16 school year. Applications for senior and junior students are available now, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday.Completed forms must be returned to the senior high office no later than Aug. 1. All applicants must register for the district's random drug testing policy.A lottery will be held Aug. 4 to determine which students receive a parking permit as well as space assignments. Members of the senior class will be given priority. Any open spaces will then be assigned to juniors. Students will be notified by mail if they have been selected to receive a permit.Permits will be issued from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 15 in the senior high school office.Rush-Ryan seniorsThe Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met June 12 at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville with 56 members in attendance. The business session was conducted by President Bill Morrison. Chaplain Norma Lee Burke provided the invocation "What God Hath Not Promised."Two new members were welcomed to the group - Betty Bablo and Larry Bower.Gloria Gerhart, Mary Taylor, Shirley Becker and Pauline Fenstermacher were the birthday celebrants for July. John and Sharon Haldeman were congratulated on their 41st wedding anniversary.Upcoming events include the annual summer picnic on July 26 at St. Peter's Grove in Locust Valley; an Aug. 2 trip to Mohegan Sun; and a Nov. 15 visit to Samson-Lancaster.Refreshments were served.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Soup socialThe next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be heldAug. 6.
