Daniel J. Schaller, 37, of 533 E. Patterson St., Lansford, was cited by Tamaqua police after he tried hitchhiking while drunk.

Officers saw Schaller at 2:30 a.m. Wednesdayas he staggered along East Broad Street with his thumb in the air. When no one stopped to give him a lift he walked into the street and narrowly avoided being struck by a passing vehicle.He did get a ride, from police, who took him to the station.A records check turned up an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear in court to answer to driving under the influence charges.He then went for a longer ride, to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville.
